This tool is styled after old fur-trade era fleshers which were hammered from the barrel of a junk gun to resemble the traditional fleshing tool made from a leg bone. Rather than a gun barrel, I use a length of black steel pipe. I heat up and forge one end shut, grind a bevel, and cut teeth in the end. These come with a dull edge so they can pound the flesh off without cutting into the hide. You can adjust the sharpness as you like with a simple file. I like this style of flesher for moose and bison, and I appreciate the end hammered shut - a hollow end flesher tends to fill up with flesh from the hide while working, while this gun barrel style stays clean inside. Approx 11" long with a nylon rope wrist strap.
